Sustainable PET packaging takes flight Each November, French-made Beaujolais Nouveau wines are shipped by air to wine enthusiasts around the world to enjoy as part of an age-old celebration of a new vintage year. In 2008, French winemaker Boisset Family Estates took a novel approach to the tradition, packaging all of its Beaujolais Nouveau wines for export in lightweight PET bottles with Constar’s MonOxbar® barrier technology. The weight savings were significant. Bottled in glass, a case of wine weighs 38 pounds. In plastic, the case weighed just 22 pounds, a significant reduction in weight, the carbon footprint and freight costs. Viva la difference! |
