Things to Consider When Pigmenting PET

One of the beautiful things about PET is that it can be made in any color—good news for brand marketers. Adding pigment to PET also can affect recycling and re-use of reclaimed material. Some colors are easier to recycle than others. For example: Light blues may be recycled in clear streams as they offset yellow tints caused by the degradation of plastic. Light green is a good choice as there are established recycling streams for green PET.

Unpigmented PET has the highest value and widest variety of end-use applications, followed by transparent and green tinted bottles and some light blue bottles. Translucent and opaque colors are problematic and have limited, if any, recycling value.
