Boisset Celebrates 2008 Beaujolais Nouveau with Sustainable PET Bottles
Last November, Boisset Family Estates broke with tradition. Instead of air freighting its 2008 Beaujolais Nouveau wine to countries around the world it glass bottles, it packaged the fruity young wine in PET bottles from Constar, a huge win for sustainability. Why? A case of wine in glass bottles weighs 38 pounds. In plastic, a case weighs just 22 pounds, a weight savings of more than 40 percent. That equates to a significantly smaller carbon footprint and a reduction in freight costs. Boisset Family Estates passed along the savings to fans of its Beaujolais Nouveau wines. In glass bottles, the wine retailed for $13.99 and $14.99. In plastic, it was just $12.99. |
